From PSHE lessons, by the end of KS3 students will have developed an understanding of some opportunity in careers and will have built on teamwork and enterprise skills. They will understand different types and patterns of work. Students will understand some financial decision making including saving, borrowing, budgeting and making financial choices. By the end of KS3 they will also have an understanding of employability and online presence
Students who choose Business at KS4 will follow the Edexcel GCSE Business course. This is split equally into 2 papers, Paper 1 – Investigating Small Businesses and Paper 2 – Building a Business.
In Year 10, students are introduced to the correct exam technique and study content for Paper 1. This exposes them to a range of business concepts such as entrepreneurship, market research to meet customers needs, types of business ownership, sources of finance, financial calculations and external influences on businesses such as inflation and unemployment.
In Year 11 students learn how businesses can grow, as well as studying disciplines such as marketing, human resources, operations and financial management.
The course is an ideal foundation for the most popular A Level course delivered in the Bay and leaves pupils with an understanding that the world of work is the background to any career. They will have acquired transferable employability skills like problem-solving, communication and teamwork skills. This will give them a competitive advantage in the initial job market. By developing relevant business knowledge and understanding, it will help students to progress to employment, vocational training and higher apprenticeships, or higher education.
