After all the snow, the Year 7 girls finally took to the courts to complete their first season as PCSA netballers. They could not have done any better. We were in a pool of Teign, TGGS, STCM, Teignmouth & Trinity so knew we had to work hard and take all the opportunities we could. There were 12 girls competing for places on the team, which is amazing but also really tough.
We started our campaign with a tight 6-5 win over St.Cuthbert Mayne, scoring in the last few seconds of the match. We then met Trinity and won 3-0. The girls showed great support and determination on and off the court. We then had a hard battle against Teignmouth with Phoebe & Krystal not receiving much of the ball however, when they did they took their chances. We won 3-1. We then unfortunately lost 12-1 to Torquay Girls Grammar, who were the eventual winners of the competition. We bounced back with a 6-3 win against a very strong Teign side.
The girls battled their way through the group to finish runners up and made it to the semi-finals, which has never happened before. They faced a well drilled Newton Abbot College in the play-offs for 3rd and 4th place. They lost 8-3. The girls ended up coming 4th out of 11 teams.
Players of the Tournament – Kaci Bates and Harriet Williams-Steele
I am extremely proud of how the girls conducted themselves on and off the court. They showed great sportsmanship and team ethos.
