Year 7 and 8 Athletes Shine

In December, 12 students from Years 7 and 8 flew the Paignton Academy flag at the annual Sports Hall Athletics competition, held at South Devon College.

Testing their wits against three other schools, the teams demonstrated both determination and resilience throughout their events and recorded some excellent performances along the way in a host of different activities.

After a series of runs, jumps and throws, both the boys’ and girls’ teams were successful in achieving a top 3 finish by the close of play, with the boys finishing in a strong third place in their competition and the girls achieving a superb runner up position in their final placing to cap off a brilliant effort by all involved.

Special mentions for the boys’ team go to Toby Varney, who worked his socks off in winning his 4 lap event, and Jacob Wellington for competing so fantastically despite carrying an injury. For the girls’ team, the standout performers were Tabitha Lewcock and Olivia Hayes, who performed brilliantly and were victorious in their 8 lap Paarlauf event, and Brooke Turner who demonstrated incredible skills levels throughout all of her events.

All students were a pleasure throughout and acted as incredible ambassadors for the Academy.

Well done to all involved!
