Having been fortunate to secure tickets for the Wimbledon Tennis Championships at SW19, a group of students set off on Monday 9th July
The group had the opportunity to walk the famous grounds and soak up the atmosphere on a day when Roger Federer, Jamie Murray, Victoria Azarenka and the eventual single finalists – Serena Williams, Angelique Kerber, Kevin Anderson and Novak Djokovic all played.
The Paignton Students, accompanied by Mr Clarke and Mr Julyan took their seats on Court 1 and saw Kerber beat Belinda Bencic in straight sets. This was followed by 6’8″ Kevin Anderson against Gael Monfils in a very tight match, with almost all sets going to a tie break.
On a scorching day, the students were a credit to the Academy, behaving impeccably and thoroughly enjoying the tennis. Katie and Tom B said:
“I enjoyed seeing famous people play”
“It was amazing, I want to go again”
A big thank you goes to Mr Cole who organised the trip and fingers crossed we will be lucky in the school ballot again next year.
