On Wednesday 8th November, two teams made up of the Academy’s top table tennis players travelled down to Eggbuckland College in Plymouth to compete in the annual Devon County Team Championships.

Both the U13 and U16 teams displayed an excellent attitude and array of skills throughout the group matches in their respective age groups against some particularly experienced players from a variety of schools across the county.

The U13s (Bailey Dixon, Josh Warren, Luke Dodd and Jasper Wilkes) did well in their first ever competition, with all the boys recording at least one win in their matches to finish 8th, but it was the U16s (Herbie Sage, Lenard Hernandez, Harrison Grainger, Jamie McGuire) who stole the show and were deservedly crowned County Champions following victory over Tavistock College in a thrilling, high quality final.

All of the boys involved were excellent ambassadors for Academy throughout the day and will have gained a valuable insight into the technical and tactical skills required to play at elite county level.

The boys returned to Paignton smiling and looking forward to the Individual Tournament which is held in the February and for the U16s, another trip back to Plymouth for the Regional Finals in January awaits.

Congratulations boys – great teamwork and a fantastic achievement!
