Three Of The Best
This half term, Paignton Academy has hosted three primary sports festivals for its local primary schools to take part in.
The first event was a hockey festival, linked to the local Torbay Hockey Club. The children were able to learn new skills and develop their all-round play, before competing against teams from the other schools. Ably umpired by Paignton Academy’s sports leaders, the children had a fantastic time taking part in this fast and skillful sport.

The other two festivals focused on Tag Rugby. There were lots of skill development activities, which enabled the children to learn the rules and apply the various skills and tactics in competitive games against other schools.
Mr Julyan coordinated the events and was delighted with the engagement of the children and the efforts of the sports leaders. “It’s always great to start the year with three top class events and we look forward to hosting another 18 events that we have planned with our local primary schools. The children get so much out of these opportunities beyond just the sporting activities. Through the experiences, they learn how to win and lose, work as a team, communicate effectively, problem solve and take responsibility. This all helps them to develop their resilience and sense of fairplay.”
