Students visit Wimbledon

Ten students from Paignton Academy, identified for outstanding Attitude to Learning scores (A2L), made the journey to SW19 on Friday.

Following an early start, the students found time to walk around the famous Wimbledon grounds, taking in all 18 courts and the various sights and sounds at this iconic event.

Much of the afternoon was spent on Court 1, where Karolina Pliskova narrowly beat Su Wei Hsieh in an exciting match. Some of the group, including Mr Julyan, even made it into the BBC’s coverage!

The next match involved the best player in the World, Novak Djokovic, who played against Hubert Hurkacz.  The game saw serves of up to 132 mph in yet another gripping match.

The journey home involved lots of traffic jams, but the students coped well and, with singing from Alice at the back of the bus, the time passed quickly.

A big thank you goes out to all of the parents for allowing their children to accompany the staff, who had a great day as well.
