Parental Consent and Data Protection

Here at Paignton Academy, we are always looking for new ways to reduce the amount of paperwork parents and guardians are required to complete or consent to over the course of the year. However, having up to date emergency contact details and parental consent for special events, school visits, photography etc. for all our students is, of course, vital for us to perform our duty of care.

Parents/guardians of students currently enrolled at the Academy have access to the SIMs Parent app, which allows them to update their contact details using any internet-enabled device, be it a smart phone, tablet or PC. More information about the app and how to use it can be found here.

Going forward, we are beginning to roll out a new system called Operoo. Starting with our Year 7s in September 2021, it will be used in a number of areas:

• Student medical information and Care Plans
• Student emergency contact details
• Parental consents
• To support with consents and administration of educational visits

This system will send reminders to parents/guardians annually to ensure emergency contact information is up to date as well as enabling responses to medical, trip and other general consent forms via the free app.
