How’s That?! Kwik Cricket Festival

180 young, enthusiastic cricketers visited the Academy for an afternoon of ‘Continuous Kwik Cricket’.

The 6 schools brought 30 Year 5 or 6 children along to play in lots of fun cricket games on a warm Paignton afternoon. The children were split into A, B and C teams so they could play at their appropriate level against the other schools.

The games were ably umpired by Key Stage 3 sports leaders, who had undergone training after school with Mr Julyan. Their role had three main parts to it:

1 Work effectively as a team.
2 Ensue the children had fun.
3 Keep the games safe and educational.

All the children learned new things during the day and some of them got to share what they had learned with everyone else at the end of the festival. Feedback included:

“I have learned how to be a good team player, making sure that everyone is in the right position and at the right time.”
“I have learned to be resilient and to not give up”
“I have learned new rules, like, you have to run even if you miss the ball”.

The afternoon was a great success and the teachers commented about how well organised the festival was.
There was some great talent on show in lots of the games and the final results were:

A Teams:
1 Stoke Gabriel
2 Collaton St Mary & Hayes
4 Sacred Heart & Curledge Street
6 Preston
