Girls in Engineering

One area which both the Considerate Contractors Scheme and the Institution of Civil Engineers are focusing on heavily at the moment is attracting more women into the construction industry.
Studies have shown that young ladies are unaware of the vast number of roles and professions available as part of a construction team, both practical and office based. It is not all about driving excavators and laying bricks!
The Year 9 Construction Engineering girls were fortunate to have a visit from a recently qualified female Civil Engineer who talked to the girls about the ins and outs of working in the industry. Kathryn discussed the qualifications required, the work involved, the pay and progression and how women play an important part within the Construction Industry at all levels.

A big thanks for Tom Morris Senior Site Agent at Dyer and Butler and Kathryn for coming in to speak with the girls who found the visit very interesting and informative.
