Girls from Years 7 and 8 take part in U13 RFU Rugby Development Day

Girls from Years 7 and 8 went to Newton Abbot Rugby Club to take part in an U13s RFU Rugby Development Day. Three other schools attended bringing girls who were new to the sport.

The girls got straight into tackling with their first carousel of activities, showing the coaches they weren’t scared to get involved in full contact. The coach commented on how engaged, respectful and approachable our students were. We then moved on to more game style activities where the girls were able to show their skills in attack and defence. During the session it was lovely to see our girls helping other students who were new to rugby.

It was, for most of our girls,  their first opportunity to represent the Academy as Year 7s and they were an absolute credit to themselves, me and the Academy – I could not be any prouder. The feedback I received about them from the coaches, other teachers and students was extremely positive. They are now really excited to get back to training after half term.

A massive thank you must go to Gary Kingdom and his coaching staff at England RFU for today’s event, as well as Newton Abbot All Whites for hosting the day.
