Free School Meals – Don’t Miss Out!

Did you know that registering your child for Free School Meals means that the Academy gets extra money? The Government gives money to schools to help children from lower income families do their very best. This funding is called a ‘Pupil Premium’ and is used to support the learning of your child.

Who qualifies?

Parents/guardians who receive any of the following benefits are entitled to Free School Meals. Children who receive these benefits in their own right are also entitled:

  • Universal Credit (provided you have an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400, as assessed by earnings from up to three of your most recent assessment periods)
  • Income Support
  • Employment and Support Allowance
  • Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • The guaranteed element of state Pension Credit
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • Child Tax Credit without Working Tax Credit and with an annual taxable income (as assessed by HMRC) of less than £16,190

How does it work?
If you want your child to have a free, healthy meal at lunchtime that’s great – they will get the free school meal (saving you time and money) and the school gets £935 extra.

What if I qualify but my child does not want the free school meal?
If you don’t want your child to have the free school meal they can continue as normal – as long as you qualify and are registered, the school still gets £935 extra.

Will anyone know I have claimed?
Registering for free school meals is confidential, no one will know you have registered and your child will not be treated any differently at lunchtime.

Will claiming for meals affect my other benefits?
No. Claiming for Free School Meals will not affect any other benefits you are claiming.
