Following their application to South Devon College, students from Paignton Community and Sports Academy were invited to an Engineering Taster Day. Programme Co-ordinator, Simon Mills, gave an introductory presentation on the opportunities within the Engineering sector and the courses available.
Each student was assigned a mentor from the advanced machine group and they worked together using the lathes to produce a yoyo. The students were also introduced to the training facilitator for Electronics and a future visit is planned for an introduction to using green electronic boards.
The students were very complimentary about the day and the welcome they had received:
“We learnt how to use a metal lathe and we enjoyed making a yoyo.”
“We experienced a day working in an adult environment.”
