The Year 8 football boys were in action for the first time this year as they competed in the South Devon Futsal Tournament, held in the Academy sports hub.

The ‘A’ team were on fire from the start and the goals were soon flying in from all angles as they secured impressive wins against Newton Abbot (2-0), Dawlish (5-0) and an incredible 9-0 master class against Teign, which included 4 goals apiece for hot-shots Henry Munyago and Nathan Choat!  Their only narrow defeat came against the eventual tournament winners, Torquay Academy ‘A’ team, leading to a runners-up position in the group and a place in the 3rd place play-off against Teignmouth. A rollercoaster 3-3 draw meant that the game would have to be decided via a tense penalty shoot-out but the boys held their nerve admirably to secure an overall 3rd place finish.

The ‘B’ team boys lost their opening match to Teignmouth but improved steadily throughout the day and, despite losing their second match to Torquay Academy ‘B’ team, they ended the day on a high with a thrilling 4-3 victory over Teign.

All the boys were excellent representatives for the Academy and are looking forward to the start of the football season later in the year.

Well played boys!
