Academy Chess Team Compete at County Level

On Wednesday 22nd January a strong group of 13 Academy chess players took part in the Devon Open Chess Championship.  The event saw the greatest chess-playing schools from across the county compete against each other, with the winning team from the competition progressing onto the national finals in London.
With Chess Club running every Wednesday lunchtime at Waterleat Road and Friday lunchtime at Borough Road, the students are able to practice and hone their skills on a weekly basis.
For many of our players it was their first taste of competition and we recorded some impressive individual victories against some tough competition with very respectable team placings.  The students were all a credit to the Academy.
Well done to all the boys who were selected and a huge thanks must go to Mr Perriam for taking the team to the tournament.
