Our Governing Body works hard to support the school and all the staff in creating a safe, secure and stimulating environment in which the best possible education can be provided.
They work strategically to raise standards and to monitor and evaluate both progress and results and are accountable for ensuring the budget is spent to this end.
Simon Tonge has been the Executive Director of the Whitley Wildlife Conservation Trust since 2000 and has been on the Governing Body since 2001. He is a zoologist with prior experience at London Zoo and Jersey Zoo, and has developed wide business skills in finance, HR, and management to complement his zoological knowledge.
Committees: Chair of the Finance Committee and, as Chair of Governors, Simon is a member of all Governor Committees.
Interests: birdwatching, walking, travel and photography.
Sara is a doctor working at torbay hospital and she has worked in medical management and medical education. She also has experience of project management. Sara worked as a volunteer in the events services team at the London Olympics in 2012.
Committees: Sara is a member of the following committees: Support and Challenge and Curriculum, Strategy and Policy.

Angela has two grown up children and three grandchildren. She worked in the private sector, mainly for the John Lewis Partnership, and then taught in Further Education as Head of School delivering NVQ and BTEC Qualifications. She holds a Cert. Ed. and a Diploma in Management. She believes that everyone should be supported to reach his/her full potential.

Tracey is married with three children, two of whom attended Paignton Community and Sports Academy before going on to University. She began her governorship as a Parent Governor before becoming a Prospects Academy Trust Governor. Tracey worked as a Biomedical Scientist in the NHS for over 10 years and has a particular interest in science.

Prospects Academy Trust Governor: Pippa Bennett
Pippa has been married to Rob for 19 years and has two children Anna and Jack. She has served in education for 22 years and has a particular interest in children with Special Educational Needs. Pippa has worked at Oldway Primary School in Paignton and is now running a Nursery in Chelston, Torquay.
Committees: Pippa is a member of the Curriculum, Strategy and Policy and Finance Committees.

Interests: walking, reading, sport and drama.
Nick served as Torbay’s first directly elected Mayor from 2005 to 2011; chaired the Torbay Strategic Partnership and now works part time in the family Estate Agency business based in Brixham.
Committees: Nick is a member of the following committees: Curriculum, Strategy and Policy, Support and Challenge, Safeguarding, Sites, buildings and Environment.

Interests: Amateur Dramatics, reading, walking, swimming, living in Torbay and foreign travel.
Deborah is a mum with two daughters, both of whom have studied at the Academy. Deborah regularly volunteers in the Academy and, although not able to work at present, worked in the community for twelve years.

Staff Governor: Carolyn Hunt
Carolyn is a mother of four and spent 16 years moving around Europe and the UK with her husband who was in the Army. The family settled in Devon in 1998. Carolyn has worked at Paignton Community & Sports Academy as a Librarian since 2003.
Committees: Sites, Buildings and Environment and Pupil Discipline.
Attachments: Years 8 and 9 and Physical Education and Sport.
Interests: Walking her dog, supporting her sons at cricket, rugby and surfing, reading, cookery and entertaining.
Laura has been the Academy’s Careers Coordinator since 2007 and is a member of our 6th Form Team. She holds a BSc in Social Psychology and a Level 7 IAG Certificate. Laura believes in ‘inspiring tomorrow’s workforce through the children of today’.
