Corey Madge Back With a Hat Trick!

The Year 8 Football team carried on their excellent start to the season with another impressive victory over South Dartmoor 6 – 4 on Tuesday 27th February. In difficult conditions, the team applied themselves well and struck first through red hot striker Corey Madge. This was Corey’s first game for the Academy this year due to a prolonged injury but what a way to mark your return with a superb hat trick!
This was certainly not a one man show with all members of the team digging deep, especially when the scores were level 3 – 3 at half time. The solid back five marshalled well by the ever impressive Alfie Lloyds in his new position as centre half. They defended incredibly well and even scored with a fantastic glancing header. Left back Charlie Waltham made three last ditch tackles to prevent what would have been a certain goal and summed up the teams desire to win the game.
Captain Tom Mayer was his usual business like self winning the battle in midfield, ably assisted by Bobby Wiggington who scored two well taken goals of his own and wide players Harry Atkinson, Vernon Ambrose and Marcus Pugh all posing an attacking threat.
The team should be very proud of their efforts and can look forward to the next round of the cup.
Congratulations – Mr Godfree
